Romy Rey (1938–2020) followed her curiosity of exploring exotic cultures from an early age. Besides travelling across Europe and Turkey, Romy visited India, Morocco, Yemen, New Mexico, and Guatemala. She lived in Zurich, Geneva, Paris, London, and Mexico and enjoyed relations with people from all over the globe.
Romy was deeply inspired by anthropology and artisanry, and she collected tribal art via friends and specialist fairs and auctions for over 40 years. Her vast assemblage of artefacts, sculptures and textiles comprised select items from private collections and unique pieces sourced first-hand or acquired from dealers.
Mr Will Hobbs of the auction house Woolley & Wallis was personally acquainted with Romy. After Romy's passing, it made sense to work with Will and his team in Salisbury, England, who skillfully applied special care in the organisation and presentation of the artefacts that belonged to the Romy Rey Collection.
